Age Exceptions

 What is an age exception?

  • Connections classes are listed with a required AGE range.  Do not confuse this with a grade level.
  • Age ranges are set by the instructor.  Many considerations are considered, such as content and difficulty of the curriculum, amount of homework, and dynamics of the class as a whole.
  • An age exception is required if your student’s age as of the first day of class does NOT fall within the required age range for a particular class.
  • Requesting an age exception should not be taken lightly.  Please consider your student’s educational level, maturity, and social awareness.

If my student is outside of the required age range, what should I do?

  • If your student requires an age exception, please contact the instructor.  The best way to initiate this contact is via email.  The instructor may request meeting you or your student in person.  Your student may be asked to share a homework sample or take an assessment test (verbal or written). Please make sure you let the instructor know your student’s birthdate, the class you are asking for an exception and if the request is for a student who is older or younger than the age range.
  • Email addresses for instructors are listed here.
  • If your child is within one year of the age range (older or younger), the instructor may grant the exception.  If your child is more than a year outside of the range, the instructor must request approval from the Board of Directors.
  • Please allow ample time for this process.

If the instructor approves my request, what should I do next?

  • If the instructor approves the age exception, the instructor will let the registration team know via email.
  • The registration team will process the request, add the student into the class, email a notification to you and ask you to pay accordingly.
  • Age exceptions will be processed as they are first approved by the instructor and then received by the registrar. The instructor may choose to wait to submit an approved age exception if they wish to allow the class to fill within the age range first.
  • Once a student has been place onto a class roster, parents will be notified and payment must be made immediately. If payment is not received, your student will be dropped from the class.  If there is a waitlist, your student’s spot will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.  If you decide you want to re-register for this class after you’ve been dropped, you must contact age-except@connectionsnw.org  and your student will be placed at the end of the waitlist.
