Pearl Gu

My name is Pearl Gu and I was born in China. I grew up speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, and other local dialects. When I was in high school, I aspired to major in early childhood education but never imagined I’d homeschool my own children. In 1999, I moved to the US, got married (22 years!) and had three children. I have been volunteering to teach Sunday school for over 17 years at my church and homeschooled my children for 10 years. Homeschooling of course had it’s challenges especially for an Asian mom who had no concept of homeschooling. Through this journey, by God’s grace, my family and I grew closer to Him and His desires. Two of my daughters are now in university, and youngest is here in high school. When I look back, my journey of homeschooling truly has been a “path overflowing with abundance.” (Psalms 65:11). Glory be to God! I thank the Lord for homeschool connections, which opened this unique way to raise our children. I’m happy to share with the Homeschool Connections community by utilizing both my unique background of Chinese cultures and experiences of homeschooling.
